LivingwithAddisons.org is powered by BensFriends.org<\/a><\/strong>, a group of patient support communities for rare diseases, and is run by volunteer moderators who have been affected with Addison’s Disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who can join LivingwithAddisons.org?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you or your family has been affected by Addison’s Disease, consider LivingwithAddisons.org<\/a> your second home. LivingwithAddisons.org, as well as the rest of BensFriends.org\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> patient communities, is free for members to join.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Addisons?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addison\u2019s disease is a disorder that occurs when your body produces insufficient amounts of certain hormones produced by your adrenal glands. In Addison\u2019s disease, your adrenal glands produce too little cortisol and often insufficient levels of aldosterone as well. One way the body keeps itself in balance is by using chemical messengers called hormones to regulate various functions. \u2026 In Addison\u2019s disease, called primary adrenal insufficiency, the adrenal glands don\u2019t make enough of a hormone called cortisol, or less often, a related hormone called aldosterone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Living with Addison\u2019s is supported by unpaid volunteer moderators who validate and register new members and monitor ongoing discussions, photo postings and Blogs. Very often, moderators are themselves patients or family members of patients. Most of the time, moderators tend to keep a low profile, except in their roles as members of the community who may be well-informed about the state of medicine and research.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
